Biography
Johanna has received a cum laude BSc in Life Science and Technology from the TU Delft and the University of Leiden, as well as an MSc with distinction from Imperial College London. She has previously worked on a variety of topics within synthetic biology, including the application of CRISPR-CAS9, triggered release particles, genetic circuitry and most recently DNA vaccines.
She joined the Synthetic Biology Centre for Doctoral Training at the University of Oxford in 2017. Here, she received 6 months of training and conducted two rotational research projects. For her D.Phil project, Johanna returned to the BUBBL group to work on the “Optimisation of DNA vector activity and delivery for improved vaccination using ultrasound mediated delivery” under the supervision of Prof. Robert Carlisle. She combines her interest in molecular biology, ultrasound, immunology and vaccine technology to develop a new generation of vaccines that can be delivered dermally utilising ultrasound.
