Description
We are seeking a full-time Software Engineer to work on the interdisciplinary project ‘Strategic Hydrogen Integration for Effective Low-Carbon Development (SHIELD)’ in Ukraine, led by Professor Stephanie Hirmer (Energy and Power Group) and Professor Rene Bañares-Alcántara (OXGATE Group) at the Department of Engineering Science, Osney Mead. The post is funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and is fixed-term until 31 March 2026.
The Strategic Hydrogen Integration for Effective Low-Carbon Development (SHIELD) in Ukraine project is a crucial element of the country's efforts to transition to green hydrogen and ammonia as part of its broader energy security goals. You will be working alongside researchers to develop and maintain the GeoX code base, modelling the potential for hydrogen development in Ukraine.
The postholder will maintain and develop the GeoX code base and support its application in the SHIELD project (i.e., modelling the potential for hydrogen development in Ukraine), work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team of policy experts, whole system energy modellers, and finance researchers to implement additional improvements to the code base, and participate in the preparation of scientific and technical reports.
You should hold a university degree in computer science or a related subject, have software development experience and competency in Python, as well as a strong team-working ethos and the ability to work collaboratively. An interest and/or background in the Ukrainian context and the ongoing conflict is desirable, but not essential.
