About Us
The University of Oxford is a stimulating work environment, which enjoys an international reputation as a world-class centre of excellence. Our research plays a key role in tackling many global challenges, from reducing our carbon emissions to developing vaccines during a pandemic.
Engineering teaching and research takes place at Oxford in a unified Department of Engineering Science whose academic staff are committed to a common engineering foundation, which includes research and study in most branches of the subject. The Department employs about 110 academic staff and around 250 research staff, all supported by an experienced team of teaching support staff, administrative staff and technicians.
About the Roles
We are seeking two full-time HR Assistants to join the Department of Engineering Science (central Oxford) on a permanent basis. Please read both Job Descriptions provided, and detail your preferred post in your application.
The roles will provide strong HR administrative support to a busy HR function, giving the post holders the chance to gain experience in a generalist role with an emphasis on recruitment and the casual engagement cycle. The posts will each offer additional opportunity to support either the field of HR Systems or EDI, and will provide exposure to a wide range of HR work. These posts would suit candidates looking to develop a career in HR.
The successful applicants will need to build effective working relationships with staff, both in the HR team and in the wider department and University, and must be able to demonstrate strong customer service skills. They must be able to manage a busy and varied workload and cope with changing priorities, whilst supporting the wider team as required. An eye for detail is essential, as well as the ability to use their initiative to address queries, ensuring a seamless and consistent HR service is provided to customers. The successful candidate will have responsibility for discrete areas of administration, such as casual engagements, recruitment life cycle, absence monitoring and reporting, but will otherwise work under the guidance of the HR Team.
Part time working would be considered at a minimum of 0.8FTE. Hybrid working is also available, with a minimum of two days in office per week following the initial induction period.
Full details of the role can be found in the Job Descriptions.
About You
Educated to at least GCSE level, the successful candidate will have demonstrable experience in general administration, ideally with HR or recruitment administrative experience. Strong IT, team working and communication skills are vital. Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail are essential, and experience of HRIS is desirable.
How to Apply
