Biography
Dr Christos Skamniotis graduated from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, in 2007 with the diploma of Mechanical Engineering. Thereafter, he pursued a DPhil in Imperial College London (ICL) in the field of characterisation and Finite Element modelling of deformation-fracture in soft solids, and received the award of best thesis in the ICL Department of Mechanical Engineering for year 2017. He continued research (PDRA) at ICL for 1 year, on the development of computational tools for predicting food deformation-fracture in the human stomach.
He is currently working in Oxford on the design of novel transpiration cooling systems for jet engine turbine blades, targeted for hypersonic flight. He is developing analytical and FE solutions for stresses under combined thermal-inertial cyclic loading in the elastic-creep-plastic regime, which aim to guide the design of ‘next generation’ turbine blades against creep-fatigue failure.
