Dr

Andreas Hornig

Visiting Fellow

Andreas Hornig received his doctoral degree from TUD-Dresden University of Technology where he is co-heading the research group for Computational Methods and Simulation at the Institute of Lightweight Engineering and Polymer Technology (ILK) and a member of the Steering Committee. He is a core member of the Dresden Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre (UTC) for Lightweight Structures and Materials and Robust Design and team leader of the Engineering & Business Topic Area at the Center for Scalable Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence (ScaDS.AI) Dresden/Leipzig. Andreas also serves as the Grant Holder Scientific Representative of the COST Action Histrate (CA21155). He is pursuing a networking mentality to foster international collaboration and research activities involving transferring academic assets into industrial ecosystems.

Research Interests

Andreas Hornig's research and transfer activities focus on the deformation and failure phenomena of composite materials and structures subjected to crash and impact loading scenarios, where he has been involved in numerous R&D projects mainly in the aerospace domain. Based on experimental findings, physics-based simulation approaches for predictive modelling strategies while integrating design and manufacturing aspects are the central challenge of his work. By bridging the Sim2Real-Gap, surrogate data spaces are generated to develop and train data-driven design, validation and certification routes.
