Abhinanda completed her Bachelor of Technology from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati in India and received the Institute Silver Medal in Civil engineering. For her bachelor’s thesis she numerically investigated the behaviour of large underground water tanks and proposed the extension of design coefficients in Indian Standard (IS) codes.
She then moved to the United States to pursue a MSc in Civil and Environmental engineering with a specialisation in earthquake engineering at University of California, Berkeley. After her masters’ studies, she worked as a structural engineer at Thornton Tomasetti, San Francisco. She is a licensed professional engineer in the state of California and has worked on projects in diverse sectors including residential, commercial, aviation and sports.
Since October 2021, Abhinanda has been a DPhil student at the Department of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford. She is a recipient of the Oxford-Ashton Graduate scholarship.
Research Interests
Abhinanda’s current research interests involve understanding the behaviour of sands under partial drainage and its implications on soil liquefaction.
Her research includes experimental testing and constitutive modelling at element level to capture the partially drained behaviour of sands.
Using the element level studies, she intends to capture the behaviour of stratified deposits through numerical analysis, investigating liquefaction susceptibility assessment methods.
